ลักษณ์ ใหม่สาลี (เกิด 1975, กรุงเทพฯ) จบการศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรี สาขาจิตรกรรมจากคณะวิจิตรศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ เขาสนใจในร่องรอยของอดีตที่นำพาเรื่องราวมาสู่ปัจจุบัน ลักษณ์นับเป็นนักสะสมและนักเล่นของวินเทจไม่เพียงแลกเปลี่ยนแต่ยังนำเอาของใช้เหล่านั้นมาแต่งเติมเรื่องราวต่อจากที่มีอยู่เดิมด้วยรูปของเขาเองอย่างเป็นเอกลักษณ์ การสร้างสรรค์ของลักษณ์จึงเป็นการผสมผสานอย่างลงตัวจากมุมมองที่เข้าใจวัสดุ ระหว่างความเป็นนักศิลปะและนักออกแบบที่มีน้ำเสียงหยอกล้ออย่างแสบสัน ไม่สนใจความสมบูรณ์หรือลิขสิทธิ์ ปัจจุบันลักษณ์พำนักและทำงานศิลปะอย่างต่อเนื่องในสตูดิโอส่วนตัวที่เชียงใหม่
ผลงานชุดที่ลักษณ์ร่วมแสดงในนิทรรศการ spirit atlas เป็นส่วนผสมของงานจิตรกรรมบนผ้าใบและงานประติมากรรม ประกอบไปด้วยคาแรคเตอร์และตัวการ์ตูนที่คุ้นสายตาในช่วงเวลา 50 ปีที่ผ่านมา ตัวละครเหล่านี้ถูกใช้งานอย่างหนัก ปรับและเปลี่ยนรูปแบบจากเดิมให้กลมกล่อมไปตามยุคสมัย ลักษณ์หยิบเอาตัวการ์ตูนเหล่านั้นมาสร้างสรรค์ใหม่ในเชิงขบขัน เขาแสดงออกในเชิงวิพากษ์ความเป็นตัวแทนของทุนนิยม แต่ก็ยังเป็นการยอมรับในทีไปด้วยในคราวเดียวกัน แต่จุดร่วมที่มีร่วมกันของทุก ๆ ชิ้นงานคือ เรื่องของเงินตรา และความเชื่อ
luck maisalee (born 1975, bangkok) completed his bachelor’s degree in paintings from the faculty of fine arts, chiang mai university. he holds a special interest for traces of the past that have shaped events in the present. luck is a collector and connoisseur of vintage items, not only trading for but also using them to uniquely supplement the existing narratives that exist in his paintings. Luck’s creativity is therefore a seamless combination from a perspective that truly understands the material. an artist or designer with a wickedly teasing voice that dismisses perfection or trademarks, luck currently resides in chiang mai, where he constantly strives to produce art from his local studio.
luck’s submission to the exhibition ‘spirit atlas’ is a combination of a canvas painting and sculptures, all of which depict iconic characters from cartoons that aired throughout the past 50 years. these characters have been heavily exploited, modified, and adjusted from their original forms according to the times, with luck recreating them in a humorous manner. the artist expresses a criticism of these symbols of capitalism, but also simultaneously an acceptance of the fact. throughout all his works, the connecting tissue of luck’s pieces are topics concerning currency and faith.
